Community Acupuncture (CA) provides traditional acupuncture treatments in a contemporary setting in a manner that is effective and affordable to all. Pioneered by Lisa Rohleder, Skip Van Meter and Lupine Hudson of Working Class Acupuncture in Portland, Oregon, CA has made this powerful modality available to many people who were previously unable to afford it.

CA treatments are based on the Chinese model: patients in Chinese clinics are treated while sitting in straight-backed chairs in a large, communal clinic space. At Jade Spirit Community Acupuncture, we have substituted comfortable recliners and currently have four chairs and one table available for treatments in two separate clinic spaces.

Consultations are done in private and there is no need for patients to disrobe as most of the acupuncture points used are on the arms and below the knees and, should a table treatment be necessary, loose clothing can usually be adjusted to accommodate treatment on the back of the body. Many patients who have grown accustomed to the American style of having to disrobe to receive acupuncture on a table in a small room prefer the ease and comfort of CA treatments.
